July 19, 2008: Li'l Smokey Arrives
On Thursday, July 17, Adam Deem, a forester with Cal Fire's California
Northern Region Office, found and rescued a 8-1/2-lb bear cub who had been
injured in the Moon Fire.(Click here for the whole story.) The cub, nicknamed "Li'l Smokey" by Deem, arrives at LTWC for
care on Friday, July 18, at 3pm.
His first
step will be an examination by the vet, Dr. Kevin Willitts (see next
photo). Li'l Smokey weighs in at 8-1/2 pounds and has third degree
burns on ALL four paws. The six month old cub was transported to LTWC
from the Region 2 headquarters of Calif. Fish and Game.
what a long way lil smokey came in a short period of time..
